    Hello & Welcome!

I first want to start out by saying that I have a passion for what I do. I have over 8 years of experience as a tutor, teacher and mentor. I earned a Bachelor degree in Accounting and History, in 2009 and a TESOL teaching certification, in 2018. I am currently earning a Master in Education (M.Ed.), from Georgetown College. While earning my Master degree, I teach in special education locally and ESL online, internationally.

I consider myself a very patient teacher and tutor, which I think is essential to the process. That said, I usually offer the student a few options in which to learn the material, based on their interests and learning styles assessments. I then let them decide which option makes the most sense to them. I can tailor the lesson plans to fit tactile learners, reflective learners and everywhere in between. I work with the student in the beginning to establish trust and lower the affective filter. Building this solid foundation allows for more effective learning and more enjoyable lessons. I believe Education and learning is a very personal process, which is why it should be tailored to each individual differently.

I am glad to meet for tutoring sessions in Ohio or Kentucky, at a public library, bookstore, online, your home or my home. Sessions can also be held online in various online classroom options. I am glad to fit your needs, depending on what is best for you or your child.

In my free time, I enjoy hiking, the arts, antiques, gardening and anything active. My schedule is flexible and I am always glad to work around your schedule. I look forward to helping you or your child in the future!

    K-12 Tutoring (All Subjects)

In the last 8 years, I have worked with students in all subjects, including: Math, Social Studies, History, Pre Algebra, Algebra, Pre Geometry, Reading, Writing, Cursive, Language Arts, Environmental Science and Biology.

I work with the student in the beginning, through assessments or observation to determine their strengths and weaknesses. We then can develop an individualized plan for them to meet specific goals.

*We can work on homework items, complete custom lesson plans for the subjects in need or a combination of both. Since the sessions are one to one, they are tailored specifically for the student.

    Special Education Tutoring

I am currently earning a Master degree in Special Education. I also have 8 years of experience working with students with ADD, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy as well as students on the Autism Spectrum.

I work with the student in the beginning, through assessments or observation to determine their strengths and weaknesses. We then can develop an individualized plan for them to meet goals. Rewards systems can be involved for motivation and sensory needs interaction can always be incorporated. Working closely with the parents on these factors can be really beneficial. I like to think of it as a team effort. I always enjoy working closely with the parent to individualize the sessions, depending on their wants and needs. The parents know the child best, so making it a team effort will contribute substantially to success.

*We can work on homework items, complete custom lesson plans for the subjects in need or a combination of both. Since the sessions are one to one, they are tailored specifically for the student.

    ESL/ELL Tutoring

I earned a TESOL certification through Arizona State University (150 hour) in November 2018. I have been working in ESL as an online teacher for 4 years. The sessions can be tailored to the needs and objectives of the student/parent, depending on what the goals are. I incorporate TPR (total physical response) in each of the lessons to make the material "stick" and create context. Props and role playing are often used to help create real life scenarios.

*We can work on homework items, complete custom lesson plans for the subjects in need or a combination of both. Since the sessions are one to one, they are tailored specifically for the student.

  • Feedback/Reviews

    "Excellent teacher"

"My daughter appreciates Katie's easy and supportive way of teacher. She has become more interested in her studies and enjoying it. Katie is very approachable to us and provide us the feedback as well."

    Syed, 39 lessons with Katie

    "Patient and encouraging!"

"My son has been struggling with math all year. He was reluctant to work with a tutor based on other experiences. However, after each lesson with Katie, he has come back positive and hopeful. Katie looks for the skills that he already has and builds on those skills to help him remember what he already knows and move forward into new skills. This has been very encouraging both as a student and as a parent. My son responds well to encouragement and Katie has been spot on with this teaching technique. She takes things slow and he responds well to this as well. I have been very pleased and we have only had just a few lessons. My son and I look forward to many more great learning experiences with Katie!"

"Katie is so patient and works so well with my son. He actually wakes up on Tuesday mornings and tells us that she is coming that evening. He looks forward to his time with her."

    Jay, 30 lessons with Katie

    "Everything we were looking for!"

"I had some reservations about getting a tutor for my 8 year old that may have turned out to not be a good fit. Katie L. eased all of our worries! She is so leveled tempered and patient, not to mention her knowledge and qualifications. She has already helped me to be a better coach and teacher. Thanks Katie! -Update Working with Katie was great for our son, Dylan! He is doing great in school and at home. Also, I have modeled a lot of how I work with him on his schoolwork after what I observed from Katie! Thanks again for everything!"
